Game One - Game On

We started off the outdoor season with a great opener against the Violent Femmes. It was a rough and tumble game with all our new players getting a chance to show their stuff on the field. Thanks to Trish, Stacey, Aparna, Danielle and Catalina for joining the team. We ended in a 0-0 draw but there is great potential as we all settle into a good groove with one another.

Next week we take on the Homicidal Fruit (aka KT) at Lincoln Fields at 11am. Make sure to leave plenty of time to get down there as the Mall will be packed for the Cherry Blossom Festival.

Spring Season 2008

The Spring season starts on March 29th and WAWSL registration is open here.

You can find our entire Spring 2008 schedule here. For our first game Wwe play the Violent Femmes from 2-4:15 on the 29th at Turkey Thicket. We beat them once last season and lost to them once last season. We are pretty evenly matched with them so this should make for a good first game.

For both new and existing players, you need to attend at least one of these practices to be able to start Game 1 of the season. New players have to attend at least 1 to be placed on the team roster.So... practice #1 will be on Saturday March 15th at 9:30 am in Silver Spring. Brunch at the Deli to follow.

Starting off indoor right

So we played our first game of the new indoor season and started off much better then the way we ended the previous season. It was great to have three new players join us and bring some new energy and skills. Jenn is off the injured list and back to her usual trash talking:) We played 6 x 6 on what seemed to be a huge field. Although we lost 4-3 in a fast game against the White Lightening the score does not reflect how hard we played nor that our opponents were running down the clock in the last few minutes in an attempt to hold on to their lead.

A special shout out to BJ who helped us out in goal by playing a second game so Monica could take a night off and recover from a nasty virus.

We should have the full season schedule later this week and I will post it on the blog.

A New Indoor Season!

So the Twisted Sisters indoor team had a respectable showing in the most recent winter season. Not our best season ever but we had fun. We have one final play off game in two weeks.

It is already time to be thinking about the next season.

Dates: The new season will run from February 3, 2008 - April 6, 2008.

Cost: The total cost to field a team is 645.00 so with 10 players that runs about 64.50 each to play.

Other details: We play 10 games, 5 against 5, at the indoor facility in Fairfax - www.fairfaxsportsplex.com Game times are usually from 4pm - 10pm with most games around 6 or 7pm. We can try and sort out carpooling/metro pick up available if folks need rides.

This is a great way to stay in shape, have some fun on a Sunday afternoon, work on your ball handling skills and hang out with other Sisters. There will most likely be just one weekend overlap with the beginning of the outdoor season so think of this as a great way to dust off your skills which have been in hibernation over the winter.

Please send me an email if you are interested in playing with us. I need your commitments by January 26th as I have to turn in a check and registration form on the 27th.

End of season pizza party

We had a great dinner on Saturday with about 14 folks. For those who couldn't attend (and for those not listening to me when I said it Saturday), I wanted to express my thanks for being such a great team this season. I have fun whether we win or lose, but it was nice to see the progression of the team over the last several seasons.

We bid a fond farewell to Rebecca, who cannot rejoin us in the spring after her major injury this season.

For everyone else, I'll be in touch again come springtime. If you want to stay involved, we have VA indoor ongoing, upcoming MD indoor, there are pickup games on saturdays and a few happy hours here and there to keep the Sisters' spirit going.

Have a happy and health holiday season and looking forward to seeing people come spring!
